Harry likely to don uniform on wedding day

Prince Harry is likely to follow royal tradition and wear a military uniform for his wedding. He’s courted controversy with his outfits in the past but Prince Harry seems most likely to toe the family line and don a military uniform for his wedding to Meghan Markle.

The 33-year-old playboy-turned-committed prince resigned from the British Army in 2015 but will likely follow in the sartorial footsteps of his brother, father and grandfather and sport regimentals for his May 19 nuptials.

Prince William wore the vibrant red Irish Guards Mounted Officer uniform at his wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011, while both Prince Phillip and Prince Charles wore naval commander uniforms at their big days in 1947 and 1981 respectively.

While Harry isn’t actively serving in the military, he holds the ceremonial title of Captain of the Royal Marines and could opt to wear the navy blue uniform.

The sixth-in-line to the throne could also sport the uniform of a captain of the Blues and Royals, which he wore at William and Kate’s wedding.

He was recently spotted pairing the navy, red and gold uniform with an Army Air Corps light blue beret in a nod to his time as a helicopter pilot.

The prince joined the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst in 2005, just months after he was photographed wearing a Nazi uniform at a fancy dress party.

In 2012, while on leave from duty, Harry was snapped playing billiards in his birthday suit with friends in a Las Vegas hotel room.

Six years on from the raunchy scandal, the reformed prince is embracing his royal roots, n celebrity stylist Lana Wilkinson told AAP.

“He has a very modern interpretation of the traditional royal dressing,” she said.

Ms Wilkinson predicts Harry will wear his uniform on the big day.

“His father did it, his brother did it and his grandfather did it, so I think Harry will wear a uniform,” she said.

“They may not be a traditional couple but I think Harry will uphold this tradition.”

But considering Harry and Meghan are getting married at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, the groom could opt to make a statement with a suit, tuxedo or a traditional morning dress.

The church has a more relaxed dress code than the grandiose Westminster Abbey, where William and Kate got married, and former royal men have wed in morning dress – consisting of a long-tails jacket, waistcoat and striped trousers.

Prince Harry and Ms Markle’s wedding invitations, shared on social media, reveal the men’s dress code as “uniform, morning coat, or lounge suit”.
